Athens, Ohio Delivering far more than a degree T
he OHIO experience The Ohio University experience is unique and transformative—not only for students, but for
the entire southeast region of the state. With nearly 30,000 students enrolled across seven regional cam- puses and the residential campus in Athens, the Uni- versity is recognized as one of the top character-build- ing institutions in the country. OHIO is rated a High Research Activity Institution
by the Carnegie Foundation, and researchers hold more than 250 patents worldwide. The Chronicle of Higher Education lists OHIO among the top producers of Fulbright Scholars in the nation, and currently the University ranks among the top in the state for nation- ally competitive awards won by its students.
Graduate and professional education Ohio University offers graduate and professional education in the forms of advanced and specialized courses of study, supervised practical experience, and research. The essential concentration of faculty, ma- terial, and space resources dictates that the activity associated with graduate and professional education will be centered on the Athens campus. This activity is not limited to that campus; research and instruc- tion are carried out at various locations.
Applying to the Graduate College
The Ohio University Graduate College works together with each graduate program to process and review your application. Applications can be submitted to the Graduate College, where your materials will be gathered for the academic program you wish to pursue.
Once you’ve found the graduate program that supports your personal and professional goals, you should review the application requirements and deadlines—programs have different application deadlines, and some only admit once a year—and gather necessary documents, which may include licenses, letters of recommendation, a résumé, and a personal statement or statement of professional goals.
You’ll also need to request an official transcript from all the universities you have previously attended (Ohio University graduates don’t need to do this). Requirements vary by program, so be sure to confirm the information you need to complete the application. Department-based funding opportunities (graduate appointments) also vary by program.
Review your program’s website for details. If you have questions about the application process, please reach out to the Graduate College at
graduate@ohio.edu. Each program handles application reviews differently, but in general, a committee of faculty will review your application. Recommendations are then forwarded to the Graduate College for final approval and processing.
Most application materials can be uploaded directly by the applicant through the online application. Documents that can’t be submitted through the application system—including official transcripts and test scores*—should be sent to the Graduate College at:
