oward Payne University—one of the oldest institutions in Texas that just cel- ebrated its 130th
anniversary in 2019—
is rich with tradition and academic excellence. Founded in 1889 for the purpose of preparing students for Christian ministry, HPU remains dedicated to providing challenging educational experiences that honor Christ and prepare students for lives of leadership and service. The University offers an educational experi- ence that integrates faith, learning, and living on a campus centrally located in Brownwood, Texas—within a two- to three-hour drive to Dallas–Fort Worth, Austin, and San Antonio.

collegiate sports. In 2012, the Lady Jackets bas- ketball team returned to the American South- west Conference championship tournament after winning the title four times in five years. In 2008, they had an undefeated season and won an NCAA Division III national championship. If you’re looking for something a little less com- petitive, the University also offers a variety of popular intramural sports, with a large number of students participating in basketball, flag foot- ball, softball, volleyball, and more.

With study abroad programs, HPU students have had the opportunity to learn in countries like Egypt, England, Hungary, Italy, Mexico, Spain, and Turkey. Howard Payne’s Baptist Student Ministry also offers opportuni- ties to minister locally, overseas, or across the United States.
